5 Interesting Facts about Wills you probably didn’t know…

A will is a legal document stating the distribution of property after death. A list of names of one or more individuals as beneficiaries or charities. It can also include the care of minor children. It declares your intentions of what specifically you would want done to your possessions and wealth.

1. More than 2/3 of UK nationals do not have a will. Only 3 in 10 people have a will. In 2009 the treasury gained £76m from people who died without making a will and in 2010 gained £53m.

2. Making a will does not mean you are about to die, it’s just a way of preparing yourself for what will happen to your assets and digital legacy when you pass away.

3. You do not need 100’s of pounds, 10 houses, 8 cars or 12 children before you can create a will. A house, a car, a camera, an e-book, anything you hold dear is classified as an asset. All these assets need protecting.

4. Your will is customised to your preference. From sentimental objects, properties, online accounts, virtual goods and passwords, money, debts, family heirlooms. It includes anything you deem relevant. If you have no beneficiaries or would like to leave your assets to charity. It should be clearly stated.

5. You can also make a will yourself online but if you have any questions you can get assistance from a lawyer or solicitor.

What can we learn from a homeless man?

In life it’s not the material things that are important but the knowledge of love, character and loyalty.

You can have all the riches in the world but if you do not have true friends and family to share that with – it is pointless. Money can buy you happiness but can’t bring you joy. Money can make your life pleasant but that won’t fill the void of loneliness and sadness you will feel.

The person that gives when he has a little is the one that will give when he has a lot. This video is priceless. i was touched by the homeless man’s actions towards his fellow homeless man. No one understands till they have been in the exact situation as you! He showed love, even though he could have saved that money for the next day, he decided to share and help out a total stranger. In the end they were both winners. They both walked away smiling and gave us the opportunity to witness this remarkable act.

Greed and selfishness are the roots of most crimes today. It’s unfortunate that not a lot of people are as selfless as this man was.

Let’s all try to be better people. Give when you can and always try to think about others.

The sad part is we don’t know!!! Even sadder part is that we do not act or do anything about it even after realising!!!!

When I started my MBA, on the last day of our orientation week,we were asked to write down our Eulogy!!! This was surprising for many of us but going through this process made us realise what is more important in life and how can we align our personal and professional goals and live a life of fulfilment and meaning.

So we were invited to pitch at the last London pitch day at the StartupBootcamp….

….and it was fun and useful.

Before I dive into sharing my experience I will give a brief intro about startup bootcamp.

What is Startupbootcamp?

They are Europe’s leading accelerator program with presence in these cities: Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Israel, Eindhoven, Istanbul and London. Well that’s awesome!!! You can find more information about startupbootcamp here.

Now coming back to my experience of the pitch event. This pitch day was only for fintech startups. Before you start scratching your head and think why is Planned Departure ‘fintech’. We allow people to manage their digital assets with ‘financial’ and ‘emotional’ value. Bitcoins is one of the digital assets with financial value. I have already blogged about ‘what happens to Bitcoins when you die’ in this post.

Great environment

The environment was very informal. I liked the seating arrangement! I would recommend everyone going there once to take a look at the space provided and to admire creativity in designing and setting a shared working space.

I pitched for about 5 minutes, in front of other startups and mentors. After the pitching there were 20 minutes of feedback with 3 different groups of mentors. Each mentor group had 3-5 members each. It is advised that you take notes of the feedback provided. I would say this was a valuable opportunity where you can not only get feedback on your pitch, but also on your product. Don’t miss it!!!

Once all the meetings were over we had a break to network with other startups, which is always fun! I love every bit of learning about entrepreneurial journeys of other founders, their challenges and also their approach. Almost all start-ups face similar challenges so knowledge sharing is good to learn about their innovative solutions.
